I have been after Susan Cartier LIebel to get me a photo of her home office for sometime. And here it is. Susan has the great blog, Build a Solo Practice, LLC and is a National Coach/Consultant. She works with those who dream of being in solo practice and those who are. Even though Susan’s target audience is the would be or already is solo practice lawyer. Her insight and methods can work for anyone working out of a home office. Susan and I visit often about different things. And best of all, we bounce ideas and concerns off of each other. If you don’t, I would encourage each and everyone of you to find someone who you can do the same with.
Susan’s office is without a doubt one of the cleanest ones I have seen. No wonder she gave me a hard time about by wire mess. Of course, turn about is fair play. And I have been giving her a hard time about not using her new MacBook Pro for her main computer. She assures me that is coming in 2008.

Yes, Grant…this office is waaaaay to clean. It is normally filled with client file folders and any manner of other paper clutter…but don’t we always try to clean up for photos.
And for those who wonder about the res tof the office, there is a rhodedendron plant I have had for 18 years trailing on the floor, a rocker and ottoman, (where I sit when I’m teleconferencing with clients so as not to be distracted by the computer) a matching two drawer filing cabinet with TV, a closet for supplies and a space..uhmmm..for the treadmill I just bought on December 30th to be delivered in a week or so. (New Year’s resolution.)
One caveat, I just recently refurbished this office because I recognized this was going to be THE space for my future employment. Prior to this it was not so ‘pretty’ with an older corner desk unit, boxes an old recliner from my husband. The point I’m making here is you can evolve in your home office surroundings, too as you get more comfortable with the concept of working from home. You create the best environment for yourself, the one you find most conducive to productivity.
So, now you’ve gotten a little peak into my world.
That’s extremely tidy - it looks like a show home office! I particularly like the chair.
It looks so neat and organized.

Great to see a picture of a home office. I’m sure a lot of people going into this field for the first time don’t know what to aim for. Thanks to Susan for sharing - and for assuring us less than totally neat people that it’s not always that tidy :). Also for people starting out it’s good to remember that the kitchen table with clients is better than a really cool desk with none.
