That’s right, what are the essential tools you have to have in your home office. Whether they stay there or go with you when you are working outside the office.
I get this question often. In an effort to get some idea of what the readers of HOW are using, I wanted to make this an “open thread”. And if the response is good, we can make this a weekly feature. Also, if there are questions you would like to ask your fellow readers of HOW, add those to your comments.
This should really be fun. I love comparing the different tools people use to be productive and to get work done. Include anything you feel you could not live without.

Rubber bands, paper clips, file folders, notepads, and USB drives to back up our work. Also, a TV to have some sort of noise running in the background while we work. It’s funny how the news will be on all day, yet at the end of the day, I still don’t know what’s going on!
A telephone headset and a digital timer. One of the ways I use the timer - set it for 30 minute increments and when it goes off ask myself “Is what I’m doing making money or saving money?” If the answer is “Neither” I quit doing it.
DSL, Firefox, Telcan (sends my toll-free# to my cell), PrimoPDF, Adobe, Mac Notebook, 2 Dell PCs, a wired house, Pandora or my ipod for sanity, VLOTech software for the web-based virtual law office. I wish I had a cool scanner, but I still use my trusty all-in-one copier/printer/scanner. What I really want is an iphone.
laptop, usb drive for backup, yoga videos for a mental and physical break
Carolyn S. just rocked my world. Now I’m adding “timer” to my list.
Cannot live without:
MacBook
JBL ‘phones
wooden drawing table
20″ LCD (newly acquired!)
coffee
pre-sharpened pencils
WACOM tablet
External HD and Time Machine (saved me today)
early morning zazen/stretching routine
Crowded House/Neal Finn collection in iTunes
And now… a timer.
