There is an old proverb that goes something like this “Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime” Almost two weeks ago I posted on my Conference Table blog in an attempt to help a fellow virtual assistant obtain clients to keep her in business. Donna Caissie of ExtraOrdinary Assistance left a comment there that brought this proverb to mind. In her comment she says “wouldn’t it be better if we taught less successful VAs, how to fish rather than throw them a fish every now and then?”
It’s an excellent point. She goes further to point out that struggling virtual assistant’s often can’t utilize the many marketing and training programs due to the fact that they are struggling. And she’s right, rather than ‘throwing a fish’, perhaps we should be teaching others to fish. Perhaps we should be sharing our insight and stories, let them know what has worked for us and hasn’t.
And since marketing tips are something that many of us owning our own small home based businesses are in need of I thought it might be nice if I offered ‘fishing lessons’ right here at Home Office Warrior VA. Each week for the next few weeks (or until the ‘bait’ is exhausted) I’ll provide a marketing tip that I’ve found useful or am currently getting ready to explore. That’s right Free Fishing Lessons.
But that’s not all, I’m hoping that some of you will participate too. Send me your ‘fishing lures’ to tmariehilton@clericaladvantage.net and I’ll post them as a lesson with links to your website and business. Let’s teach someone to fish!!
